Veins. We all have them. Many of us also have unsightly veins that may cause shame or embarrassment. We may even feel the need to dress to cover up our veins. There’s no need to let unsightly veins stop you from participating in events with scantier clothing, such as bathing suits, or from wearing what you want!
About 50 to 55 percent of women and 40 to 45 percent of men in the United States suffer from some type of vein problem.
Varicose veins affect half of people 50 years and older. Varicose veins are enlarged veins that can be blue, red, or flesh-colored. They often look like cords and appear twisted and bulging. They can be swollen and raised above the surface of the skin. Varicose veins are often found on the thighs, backs of the calves, or the inside of the leg.
Spider veins are like varicose veins but smaller. They also are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. Often, they are red or blue. They can look like tree branches or spiderwebs with their short, jagged lines. They can be found on the legs and face and can cover either a very small or very large area of skin.
Factors such as increasing age, medical history, hormonal changes, pregnancy, obesity, lack of movement, and sun exposure can all increase risk of spider and varicose veins.
The good news is, spider and varicose veins can be treated with the Xeo laser right here in our medi-spa in Fort Collins! The simple laser vein treatment is done on the outside of your skin. The Xeo delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be. You will be able to walk following the treatment, and recovery typically is short. You are likely to be able to return to your normal daily routine after simple laser treatment.
