How we take care of ourselves plays into so many aspects of our lives- our physical fitness capabilities, how long we live, the quality of our life, how we feel, how we recover, and more! A huge component of taking good care of ourselves is our diet. Evolutionarily, humans were not made to eat large quantities of processed foods. No matter what dietary regimen you follow, make sure to incorporate large amounts of whole foods, water, and vegetables. Most of us can agree that vegetables and water are so good for us.
Diet affects so many other parts of our health, from our quantity and quality of sleep, to exercise recovery, and most importantly skin health. Our bodies are like snowflakes, each one is so unique. Pay attention to what feels good and works for your body- more veggies and less animal protein, more fish or lean meats, more or less fruits, more healthy fats like avocado and olives. Your body will let you know what is and is not working. Give your body the fuel it wants so that it can give you things that you want, like healthier skin.
Here are a couple of tips to get more veggies into your life without too much more effort. If you drink smoothies, add a handful or two of fresh or frozen spinach to your smoothie or protein shake. It changes the taste very little and adds in some great nutrients! You can also puree about a cup of any kind of veggies in the food processor and add to a pound of ground meat of your choice, with 2 tablespoons of any kind of seasoning you like. Mix well, shape into meatballs, and bake for 30-45 minutes at 350 until cooked through. You can also puree about a cup of mixed veggies in the food processor and add to pre-made tomato sauce. Whatever you serve the tomato sauce with, it will now have a little veggie boost!
