Biopelle Skin Care Line- Now in Your Fort Collins Med Spa!

We are thrilled to announce we now carry the Biopelle skin care line in our medical spa in Old Town Fort Collins, CO. Biopelle is revolutionary because it is a pharmaceutical grade line with stem cells.

Biopelle, Inc. is the aesthetic subsidiary of Ferndale Pharma Group, Inc, which is a worldwide leader in the development and distribution of clinically proven skincare products. Biopelle is committed to helping aestheticians deliver evidence- based, patented technologies that target multiple metabolic pathways to address demanding skin and deliver visible results. Biopelle offers high quality professional products through licenses healthcare providers like us! The solutions these products offer fall into one of two main categories: biopelle (which includes Retriderm Tensage Growth Factor and Tensage Stem Cell with CellPro Technology) and also PRESCRIBEDsolutions which is the only multi-tasking customizable skincare line with boosters.

Tensage Stem Cell (in the biopelle line) features CellPro Technology and a unique and natural ingredient extracted from the eggs of the Cryptomphalus aspera snail. This ingredient is clinically proven to replenish, reinforce, and restore the appearance of youthful skin.

With age, the cells in skin break down and natural stem cells have more difficulty replacing them. Even by carefully avoiding sunlight and other possible sources of skin damage, this is a natural skin aging process that will eventually lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Tensage Stem Cell Cream has CellPro Technology which uses the natural ingredient extracted from the snail eggs in an exclusive and patented process to improve skin’s appearance during the natural aging process.

With twice daily application of Tensage StemCell and Tensage StemCell eye cream, as well as a gentle cleanser and sunscreen, noticeable differences in the following areas can be achieved: forehead- significant reduction of fine lines, undereye area- significant reduction in fine lines, cheeks- significant reduction in inflammation as well as smoother texture and reduced wrinkle depth, nasolabial folds- significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, periorbital area- significant reduction in fine lines and wrinkles as well as smoother texture and reduced wrinkle depth, and lower cheek/jowl area- increased elasticity.

Anti-Aging Advice from Your Fort Collins Medical Spa

wine instagram.jpg

Aging is a normal process for all of us, yet some of us wear our age better than others. Wondering what can be done to minimize the effects of aging? Read on for some anti-aging advice from your Fort Collins Medical Spa- Advanced Aesthetics of Northern Colorado!

One treatment for aging is a skin-resurfacing treatment called CO2 fractional laser therapy. It combines the effectiveness of traditional carbon dioxide lasers and a new application technique to offer powerful results without harsh side effects. Laser resurfacing uses beamlets of energy light to create tiny holes in the skin, which stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing prevents damage to the top layer of skin during this process, which offers maximum results with minimal recovery time.

Another anti-aging treatment is anti-wrinkle injections, like Juvederm (which we offer!). Fillers can be used to volumize skin anywhere on the face, so a youthful look can be achieved without surgery! Unlike a face lift, which pulls the skin tight, volumizing injections plump up the skin in a natural way. Juvederm leads to robust collagen production and also interferes with collagen breakdown, so you get a filling effect with an increase in collagen production, too!

A simple anti-aging breakthrough is antioxidants, found in fruits and vegetables! They fight aging by destroying free radicals, the unstable molecules occurring from sun exposure or pollution that can break down the skin’s collagen supply. Topical antioxidants, such as CoQ10, Vitamins C and E, and the coffee berry, can improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles!

Another way to stimulate collagen production is through peptides- small proteins! Peptides can produce a mild Botox-like effect, inhibiting release of neurotransmitters that keep facial muscles from forming wrinkles. They can act like growth factors, stimulating skin cells to make quick turnover.

Vitamin A is another great anti-aging treatment! It can be applied as prescriptions like Retin A or Renova, but also in weaker strengths in over the counter products listed as retinol. Retinoids- derivatives of vitamin A- work on aging skin by increasing collagen production and decreasing collagen breakdown.

Anti-aging sunscreens are another great way to handle aging skin. Helioplex, which is a new technology that makes sunscreen ingredients more effective, and Mexoryl SX, which is a new protective agent in anti-aging sunscreens. Both defend against the aging effects of UVA rays.

Microneedling; Fort Collins Facial

33036933_xxl.jpg

There is a new type of facial available in some salons across the US and it is one that we are currently researching and hope to be able to offer soon to our valued customer! Microneedling is a facial treatment that uses a cluster of 9 to 19 needles to jab tiny holes all over the face rapidly.

Creating those tiny holes makes the skin go into healing mode, where it makes more collagen, which helps fade scars and smooth pockmarks caused by acne. The release of collagen also prevents fine lines from deepening, plus gives a radiant glow to the skin.

The procedure involves a consultation to determine if the treatment is right for you and your skin. Then the skin is cleanses, and a numbing cream is applied. Once the numbing cream is activated, then a hyaluronic acid and growth factor serum are applied to help the device glide over the skin. The needle length is set on the wand, which is an individual needle length based on your skin. The length is determined so that it is long enough to create a pinkish inflammation but not overwhelm the skin or draw blood. Then a patch test is done, which won’t hurt at all. After the patch test, the wand will be moved over the face inch by inch in concentric motions. The sensation is hardly noticeable. The machine buzzes, but the actual feeling on the face is almost like being scratched by a fingernail. The whole process takes about 20 minutes, and the needles may be shortened to accommodate the thinner and more sensitive skin around the eyes, forehead, and side of the nose.

Microneedling is safe for all skin tones and can help almost anyone achieve baby smooth skin. There is minimal downtime- a maximum of one to three days, and collagen is stimulated over a 6 week period. This makes the treatment a more affordable alternative to other collagen stimulation facials.

Although the treatment isn’t for everyone, and results will not correct sun damage because the needles do not go that deep, skin can see even more improvement after four or five consecutive treatments. Within 24 to 48 hours after microneedling, you should see results! After treatment, apply nutrient rich serums to the face later on the day of treatment and the next day.

We can’t wait to announce when we will be able to offer this incredible new treatment here at Advanced Aesthetics of Northern Colorado! Until then, schedule a free consultation to discuss other facials that we offer, such as microdermabrasion and laser genesis!

Natural Sunscreens- What You Need to Know; Facial Fort Collins

14729823_xxl.jpg

Here at Advanced Aesthetics, we highly recommend that you use sunscreen every day no matter what. Sunscreen helps protect your skin from ultraviolet rays that age the skin.

Lately we have been hearing concerns about using chemical sunscreens. As a result of these concerns, natural sunscreens like the one we carry from Lira are becoming popular. Natural sunscreens, which use physical barriers, are just as effective as chemical sunscreens.

Chemical sunscreens neutralize ultraviolet rays with compounds like Beznophenone and Octinoxate. Natural sunscreens use physical barriers like Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide, which are minerals that actually for a barrier against ultraviolet rays.

Your skin type plays a role in determining which type of sunscreen- chemical or physical barrier- would be best for you. If there is any sensitivity or inflammation in the skin, the physical barrier is your best option! It blocks the rays and keeps the heat out of the skin. Chemical sunscreens trap heat in the skin while neutralizing the rays- this is totally fine for normal to oily skin with no sensitivity issues. However, for inflamed or sensitive skin, trapping the heat with a chemical sunblock could be disastrous!

After you determine whether a chemical or physical sunscreen barrier is better for your skin type, then you need to determine what number SPF to use. Higher numbers protect you longer, but not more. The number means how long you can stay in the sun without burning compared to not wearing sunscreen.

Lira SPF comes in SPF30 and SPF50, plus a lip balm version. It nourishes the skin with plant stem cells, vitamin C, vitamin E, and grape plant stem cells. It smells lovely, is natural, and is great for sensitive skin!

Laser Genesis from a Patient’s Perspective; Medi Spa Fort Collins

28102066_xxl.jpg

The following is a retelling from one of our satisfied patients at Advanced Aesthetics of Northern Colorado, who received a Laser Genesis facial recently.

"I had never been to a day spa nor a medical spa before, but I decided to schedule a Laser Genesis facial. This was my first ever facial (other than the cheap face masks you can get at the grocery store and apply at home). Fortunately, having had a great experience with LASIC laser vision correction, I was not afraid of the laser. I had read a little bit about what Laser Genesis feels like, and I knew that it would not be a painful procedure.

I arrived at the spa the morning of my appointment, and was greeted by Christina, who helped me feel right at home. After completing some paperwork, including medical releases and information on my medical background and skin health, we discussed the procedure in depth. Christina answered all of my questions and made me feel comfortable immediately. After discussing everything fully, it was time to start the procedure!

I lay down on the table and Christina washed my face with a gentle cleanser, to remove any dirt and debris. After drying my face, she then started the laser. She told me that we would do the facial in four sections- each cheek, the forehead, and then finally the area around the mouth. Just like I had heard, the laser felt like warm rain on my cheek. The warmth increased at the procedure continued. For my skin type, I was receiving 100 pulses of the laser per section of face. The laser pulses very rapidly and you just hear light beeps for each pulse, too fast to count. While the cheek and forehead sections were being done, I was able to continue chatting with Christina, which made me feel very comfortable. I would also say that the laser felt like laying out under the warm sun. It was just a very warm feeling- not hot, and not burning, but like the sun was shining down on your face. During the entire procedure, there were eye protection goggles over both eyes. When it was time to do the mouth region, she warned me that the laser could crack my teeth if it came in contact with them, so to be sure and not talk or open my mouth during that part of the process. After all four sections were done, she applied a lovely moisturizing SPF cream from Lira to my skin and said I was good to go about my day as usual!

Thank you for helping my skin feel and look clearer and smoother, Christina! You’re the best!"

PRP- Vampire Facelift; Day Spa Fort Collins

33746741_xxl.jpg

Do you have wrinkles? Do you have blood? Of course you have blood! Did you know that your own blood can be used to help erase wrinkles and create a more youthful appearance?

Have you heard of the new treatment called PRP- platelet rich plasma? It is also known as the vampire facelift. During this skin rejuvenating facial, your own blood is drawn, spun in the centrifuge, then re-injected into your face to erase wrinkles and create a more youthful look.

PRP can also be used in combination with fillers and lasers to enhance rejuvenating results. Juvederm (Hyaluronic acid therapy) can be used in conjunction with PRP to create a natural result. This helps add volume and tighten the skin.

Here at Advanced Aesthetics of Northern Colorado, we pride ourselves on being extremely highly educated. We have been researching PRP extensively and plan to offer it as one of our services within the next six months approximately.

In the meantime, we will continue to research the procedure, certifications, and tools needed to safely and effectively perform PRP. We are excited to announce that we will soon be able to provide this service for our valued clients!

If you have any questions on PRP, or would like to talk about other options for facials here at Advanced Aesthetics (such as laser genesis, microdermabrasion, or other treatments like Botox and Juvederm injectables), please contact us to schedule a complimentary consultation!

We offer a variety of services and products to make you feel and look good, and we value your overall health and wellness. We are the only medical spa in Old Town Fort Collins and we offer special services that other day spas cannot offer. We can’t wait to hear from you for your next appointment!

What’s the Difference Between a Medical Spa and a Day Spa?

There’s one big difference between medical spas and day spas - medical spas give results! Day spas are great and offer many restorative and relaxing treatments with the end goal of pampering. However, medical spas like ours have a medical doctor overseeing everything. We have more effective products with stronger active ingredients, treatments with lasers and injectables, deeper levels of exfoliation, and multiple forms of exfoliation in a single treatment. These are all things that you cannot find at a day spa.

At first glance, med spas and day spas seem similar, especially since the menu of services looks similar. However a med spa is actually a hybrid between a medical clinic and a day spa, and operates under the supervision of a highly trained and specialized medical doctor. Medical spas can treat skin conditions such as brown spots, redness, fine lines, wrinkles, loss of volume, and broken capillaries that cannot be treated at all or as effectively by a traditional day spa.

Today, most medical spas have a comparable atmosphere to a day spa, so that the patients leave relaxed and fulfilled. Here at Advanced Aesthetics of Northern Colorado, we pride ourselves on our professional, well educated, and helpful staff. We want all of our clients to feel comfortable asking questions about treatments and products they are considering. The overall health and wellness of our clients is our number one priority- we want you to look and feel your absolute best! No need to hide behind makeup or other barriers- come in and see what we can do for you so that your natural beauty radiates from the inside out!

We offer free consultations for all of our services! We look forward to talking with you about how our products and services can meet your needs!

Coping with Aging Skin; Fort Collins Spa

lotusangled16x10.jpg

We all age. It’s a normal process. Despite different products and procedures, we all continue to age. The difference in appearance is how our skin handles the aging and how we slow the natural progression.

Aging shows up in the skin because of a lack of collagen and elastin, coupled with a decrease in collagen repair. A direct result of these changes show up as sagging skin, dull skin tone, and age spots.

The earlier you start caring for your skin, the better your skin will look with age. Using an SPF of 30 or higher is an excellent preventative. Avoiding midday sun and tanning beds is also helpful for skin health later in life.

A vitamin C antioxidant serum, glycolic acid, and a vitamin A derivative like retinol can also be helpful to fight effects of aging while you are still young. You can also supplement your diet with collagen.

If you are older than 20s or 30s, follow the above recommendations but more intensely. You can get laser treatments, dermaplaning, and fillers to reduce volume loss and appearance of sagging skin.

Be wary of over the counter products with no real cosmetic value, and remember that plastic surgery procedures do not remove the need to care for the health and quality of skin tone and texture.

Don’t let aging stand in the way of your true beauty! Help your skin to look its absolute best by following the preventative measures outlined above plus sufficient sleep and healthy eating. Come and talk with us at Advanced Aesthetics, Old Town’s only med spa, about laser and filler options as well as premium skin care products offered. Let us help you feel comfortable and radiant in your own skin with the best quality care in Fort Collins!

The Truth About Chemical Peels; Fort Collins Facials

earth-element-light-rays.jpg

Chemical peels do so much more than many people realize. They offer a variety of skin benefits and can be used on face, hands, neck and chest. Some benefits include reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, evening skin color, brightening the complexion, and exfoliating skin to treat sun damage and acne scars.

What really happens to your skin during a chemical peel? The active acid is delivered to the skin, working to remove damaged skin cells. Then the acid rejuvenates and refreshes your skin by exfoliating dead skin cells. The peel can stay on for a few minutes or longer. You may experience some warmth or discomfort during this time while the acids remove dead skin cells. We will always be watching your skin and checking in with you to ensure it isn’t too intense. Once the peel is neutralized, skin redness and peeling may occur.

After healing from any redness and peeling, the new layer of skin is smooth and radiant. Your pores will be less noticeable and skin tone will be better. Lines, age spots, and scars may be reduced in appearance.

There are several types of acid that may be applied to the skin during a chemical peel- alphahydroxy acid (AHA) such as glycolic or lactic acid, salicylic acid, or the strongest tricholoracteic acid. AHAs work on the superficial layers of the skin, while other types of acids are applied to the middle layer of skin.

If you have acne, sun spots, wrinkles, or scars, a chemical peel may be right for your skin. Wouldn’t you like to let your inner beauty shine out? Let’s get your skin looking it’s absolute best with a chemical peel or other treatment specifically chosen for your unique skin type and needs. Come visit us in Old Town Fort Collins to discuss your skin care needs during a free consultation.

All About Collagen; Fort Collins Med Spa

25459357_xxl.jpg

We hear so much about collagen and how good it is for our skin. Let’s learn more about what it is and how it works in our bodies!

Collagen is what holds our entire body together! It is the most abundant protein in the human body, composing about 30% of the protein in the human body. It can be found in skin and tendons, bones, and muscles.

Collagen is very important for health, and the breakdown of naturally produced collagen is associated with numerous health issues. Supplemental collagen is used increasingly more for medical and cosmetic purposes, including helping heal and repair tissue.

It provides the strength and structure to our skin, and also is involved in the replacement of dead skin cells. Collagen production naturally declines with age and is also reduced by exposure to ultraviolet light and other environmental factors such as smoking and high sugar consumption. Collagen synthesis begins to decline around 40 years of age, and dramatically decline in women after menopause. By age 60 there is normally a significant decline in collagen production.

Products such as lotions that claim to increase collagen levels are unlikely to do so because the molecules of collagen are too large to be absorbed through the skin. However, collagen production can be stimulated through laser therapy, such as Laser Genesis treatment. This treatment can also help stretch marks.

Nutrients that support collagen production in the body are proline (from egg whites, meat, cheese, soy and cabbage), anthocyanidins (blackberries, blueberries, cherries, and raspberries), Vitamin C (oranges, strawberries, peppers and broccoli), copper (shellfish, nuts, red meat and some drinking water), and Vitamin A (animal derived foods and plant foods).

Eating whole and minimally processed foods can help produce more collagen!

To further increase your body’s collagen production, come talk with us about what Laser Genesis can do for your skin!

Large Pore Reduction at Fort Collins Medi Spa

25175747_xxl.jpg

Do you suffer from large pores? You are not alone! As we age, the elasticity of our younger skin is reduced, making our pores appear larger! The good news is there are two options to reduce the appearance of your pores.

You don’t have to hide behind makeup any longer. We can help you gain more confidence and radiate your beauty from the inside out! Confidence is one of the sexiest things in the world, no matter your age or gender. Let us help you gain the knowledge and products and services to help you look and feel your best!

The first option is to exfoliate. You can do this with a facial scrub that you use at home, and we can also do this for you at Advanced Aesthetics in Old Town. We offer several services that exfoliate your skin, including facials, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion! Exfoliation works by making the pores less deep and therefore appearing smaller. It is important to remember to moisturize after exfoliating to help the pores stay plumped up. Moisturizing on a regular basis will help with smaller looking pores, as well.

The second option is a longer term and more effective one- use a product with retinol in it. Retinol can help the skin become smoother and minimize the appearance of pores. There are numerous products containing retinol, and we would be happy to make recommendations that are best suited to your skin.

With the right treatment and products, plus armed with the right knowledge, you can definitely reduce the appearance of large pores. Contact us today for a free consultation about which of our products and services would be best for minimizing your pores and work best for your routine, budget, and lifestyle!

Chemical Peels; Fort Collins Facials

10042809_xl.jpg

Do you suffer from wrinkles, fine lines, mild scars, acne, age spots, freckles, or dark patches on your face? If so, you may be a candidate for a chemical peel to improve your skin’s appearance. No need to hide behind makeup! Let the true you shine!

Chemical peels apply a chemical solution to the skin which gets rid of dead skin cells on the surface, and after about 10 days it begins to flake off. The new skin is smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands to improve the look and feel of the skin.

We will work with you to determine the depth of the peel, depending on the condition of your skin and your goals for treatment. First, we will clean your skin thoroughly. Then, we will apply one or more chemical solutions to the area of treatment- either glycolic acid, thrichloroacetic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid, or a plant enzyme. This will create a controlled area of new skin generation.

During the treatment, most people feel five to ten minutes of a burning sensation, followed by a stinging sensation. Putting cool compresses on the skin may help with the stinging. If a deeper peel is performed, pain medication may be needed during or after the procedure. We will never perform a deep peel without a thorough consultation and skin analysis.

Depending on the type of peel, a reaction much like sunburn occurs after the procedure. There is usually peeling with redness, followed by scaling, which typically ends within three to seven days. Peels may be repeated within several weeks to months, depending on the depth of the peel and the results desired. Often times to achieve the optimum result a series of peels is best, over the course of 3-4 months.
