Voluma FAQs by Juvederm; Fort Collins Med Spa

Volume is a new product by Juvederm. Voluma is an injectable cheek filler that we offer here at Advanced Aesthetics of Northern Colorado! We want to answer any questions you may have in advance so that you can be completely comfortable coming in for a consultation for Voluma injections

What is Voluma? It is a gel that is injected into the cheek area to gently lift the skin and restore volume lost from aging. It is made from a modified form of hyaluronic acid which is a complex sugar that naturally occurs within our bodies.

What is Voluma used for? It is the first and only FDA approved non-surgical option to instantly correct age-related volume loss in the cheek area for patients above 21. It has been used since 2005 in Europe and is approved for use in over 60 countries with more than 500,000 syringes used so far. It restores cheek and mid face volume loss and restores more youthful curve and position to the higher area of cheekbones in women. It lifts, volumizes, and recontours the face and jawline with a natural look.

What makes Juvederm different from other dermal fillers? It is specifically made for lifting and filling the mid-face and cheeks. It is a smooth gel that flows easily and consistently for nice sculpting and long lasting results.

How long does Voluma last? It can last up to two years with optimal correction. It may help stimulate the production of new collagen by your own body which may lead to longer duration of improvement. Other factors like your health, weight, and body chemistry plus the volume injected and skill of injector also affect the duration of correction.

Are the injections painful? There is minimal discomfort during the injections. Topical numbing cream may be applied prior to the treatment to reduce discomfort, particularly for sensitive areas such as fine lines near the mouth. Numbing shots are not normally needed.

Is allergy testing needed? No, it is not needed.

Is it safe for all skin types? Yes, Voluma is for all skin types, although people with darker skin do not usually wrinkle as much as lighter skin tones, but everyone experiences age related volume loss in the cheeks.

How long does treatment take? Depending on the extent of areas being treated, volume of Juvederm Voluma used and complexity of treatment. Simple injections may take only 15 or 20 minutes, but time could be significantly longer depending on the nature of the treatment.

Do I need to do anything differently after the procedure? Results are immediate and very natural looking, so you may return to your normal routine immediately. Occasionally, side effects such as bruising or swelling occur by the next day, so be aware.

What are the common side effects? You might experience bruising, tenderness, swelling, pain during injection or some redness or itching. Lumps and bruising are possible but easily massaged out. Occasionally asymmetry or unevenness from side-to-side may be experienced which can be easily corrected.

Juvederm FAQs; Fort Collins Spa

kiss me with rain on your eyelashes.jpg

Juvederm is similar to Botox in that it is a facial injectable which helps temporarily minimize wrinkles. We are going to answer some of the frequently asked questions relating to Juvederm, so you can decide if it is something you might be interested in.

What is Juvederm? It is a gel dermal filler which helps to instantly restore the volume to your skin and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. It temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother facial appearance.

How is it used? It is injected into the facial tissue with a fine needle.

How does it work? There are numerous hyaluronic acid fillers, but Juvederm is unique because it is manufactured with HYLACROSS technology which gives it a special smooth gel structure that lasts over time. It is approved by the FDA to last up to one year with only one treatment.

What is Hyaluronic Acid? It is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps hydrate and add volume to your skin. It can be used for cosmetic purposes but also for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair. It occurs in abundance in young healthy skin. With age and other factors such as sunlight, the amount of Hyaluronic Acid are reduced, which causes your skin to lose structure and volume creating wrinkles and folds. Juvederm is a safe and effective way to replace the hyaluronic acid your skin has lost, bringing back facial volume!

What will treatment with Juvederm accomplish? It will help smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. For most patients, one treatment will accomplish optimal wrinkle smoothing for up to one year. Most patients will see improvement immediately after treatment. We will work with you on an individual basis to achieve the most natural looking results.

What are possible side effects? Most side effects are mild or moderate, with short lasting duration. Common side effects include temporary injection site reactions like redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. There is the possible risk of infection, like with all skin injection procedures.

What should I do prior to treatment? Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen, because they can both increase bleeding or bruising at the injection site.

What do I need to do after treatment? Return to normal activities other than vigorous exercise (which can resume the following day).

Can people with different skin tones receive Juvederm injections? Yes! Juvederm is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has been proven safe and effective for people of color. There is no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

Things to Know Before Botox; Fort Collins Medical Spa

9015848_xxl.jpg

Botox is an injectable that helps smooth out wrinkles in the face. Today we will give you a run down on the details of the procedure and things you should know before you schedule a Botox injection.

Botox is a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is a microbe that causes botulism. It works by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles which prevents them from creating deep wrinkles and furrows in the skin. Wrinkles are caused by a combination of lack of collagen, cellular changes in the body, sun exposure, and changes in the environment.

Injectable Botox can be used for temporarily eliminating moderately severe facial wrinkles. It can also be used to treat various medical conditions, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, chronic migraines and chronic pain.

Botox is injected into the facial muscles with a very fine needle. To help with crow’s feet, Botox will be injected into three areas of the muscle that frames the side of the eye. To help with frown lines, Botox will be injected into two of the muscles in the forehead.

Your aesthetician may choose to numb the area with ice packs or topical numbing cream prior to injection. Results will begin to appear within a few days of treatment, and they may last up to four months. Areas that receive regular injections may have results that last longer. Botox should only be injected by qualified medical professionals.

Don’t consume alcohol for two days before treatment and avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs for two weeks prior to injections. This may prevent bruising. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease, you should not receive Botox.

Botox may not work for all wrinkles. If you’re considering injections, please schedule a complimentary consultation. With repeated treatment, wrinkles may appear less severe over time as the muscles are trained to be less active. For younger patients, Botox may prevent minor wrinkles from forming.

Injectables FAQ; Botox in Fort Collins

Life is Good.jpg

If you have never had injectables like Botox and Juvederm, they might seem intimidating or just a mystery! We want to put all of the information out there to make sure our clients know what these procedures entail and how they could work for you!

1.          What is Botox? Botox is a natural purified protein produced by Clostridium botulinum bacterium.

2.          How does Botox work? It blocks the nerve to muscle signals that would typically tell your facial muscles to contract. Since the injected muscles are not able to move, the wrinkles around those muscles soften. Botox is an anti-wrinkle treatment for forehead lines, lines around the eye, and frown lines.

3.            How long does Botox take? What is the recovery procedure? It takes about ten to twenty minutes. No recovery time is needed since it is a non-surgical facelift. You can go back to your normal routine afterwards.

4.      Does a Botox injection hurt? Some patients feel minor discomfort from the injection. However, the needle used is very tiny and most patients feel very little or no pain.

5.      Does Botox cause botulism? No. It would take significant amounts of Botox to cause botulism- often 100 times more than the typical dosage.

6.      How long will it take to notice a difference after treatment? About three days after treatment you will see improvement in facial wrinkles, frown lines and crow’s feet.

7.      Is there any pre-treatment? You do not need to take any medications with aspirin, ibuprofen and/or Vitamin E for one week prior to treatment. These decrease the bruising at the injection site.

8.      Is there any post-treatment? You will need to keep your head up for four hours and not exercise for 24 hours, but that’s it!

9.      What are the side effects? Side effects are typically very minimal and may include temporary bruising, headaches, nausea, temporary eyelid droop, and respiratory infection or flu like syndrome. Any headaches that may occur typically go away after one to two days. Any eyelid drooping that occurs usually goes away after three weeks. It’s caused by Botox movement within the muscles- so avoid rubbing the injected areas for at least 12 hours.

10. How long do the benefits last? The effects of Botox can be seen for three to six months after treatment. Lines and wrinkles will reappear as the nerve to muscle signals return and the muscles start contracting again. As the muscle memory is trained to relax, the lines can appear less severe when they reappear.

11.     Are injections safe for everyone? Those who are breastfeeding or have a neurological disease should not receive injections. We recommend a consultation with a trained and experienced staff member, since Botox is not effective on all wrinkles.

12.      How much does Botox cost? Costs vary by the type and number of treatments purchased. You can find our rates on our website.

13.      Will my insurance pay for it? Insurance coverage varies, depending on medical necessity of the condition. Most insurance does not cover Botox when it is used for cosmetic procedures, but check with your insurance carrier for details.

Botox vs. Juvederm in Fort Collins

14250076_xxl.jpg

Botox and Juvederm- what is the difference? Let’s get into the science and break them down to learn more.

Botox is a treatment that involves a very small amount of a specific purified protein produced by a bacteria called clostridium botulinum. The protein is injected with a very fine needle into the small muscles of the face, to temporarily freeze or weaken the muscle, which reduces the ability to squint, frown, or show excessive worry lines.

Botox is commonly used in the glabellar muscle to erase frown lines between the eyebrows, as well as on the horizontal lines on the forehead, crow’s feet around the eyes, on the muscle that brings down the corner of the mouth, and in the neck.

Treatments typically last several months. The procedure is quick, only around 20 minutes, and requires no down time. There is no effect on the sensory nerves, so the injected areas will feel normal. The pain is minimal, as the injections feel like little bug bites and no sedation or anesthetic is required.

On the other hand, Juvederm is a form of hyaluronic acid, developed using filtration and molecule manipulation techniques. It treats moderate to severe facial folds, raises the upper part of eyebrows, smooths under eye hollows, enhances lips, increases volume and defines contours of cheeks, chin, and jaw line. It can also be used for minor rhinoplasty (reshaping of the nose). It typically last six months or more, which is longer than Botox.

Benefits of Juvederm include the ability to be used on all skin types with no risk of disease transmission or allergic reaction. Some facial areas require only a single treatment and results are immediate, with minimal swelling and pain.

Come see us to talk about these great non-surgical cosmetic procedures and how Botox or Juvederm can help you achieve the youthful, fresh complexion you desire!

Beauty Ideal vs. Your Identity; Fort Collins Botox

13487856_xxl.jpg

At Advanced Northern Colorado Aesthetics we’re aware of the culture’s beauty ideal and it’s negative impact on women and girls. (And men and boys too.)

We’re told we have to have plump lips, sculpted cheekbones and never look older than 27 years old. This often has negative effects on self esteem and self worth. We hate that.

We’re a medical spa for whom our motivation is not helping you meet some Photoshopped beauty ideal. We’re motivated to helping you be the ideal you. We don’t want you to look like someone else. We want you to look like the beautiful person that you are, we are interested in helping your inner beauty come to the surface so that everyone can see what we see when we look at you.

“I was tired of everyone thinking I was tired and exhausted,” Jane Fonda told Oprah, explaining why she had had some “work” done. “I don’t feel exhausted, I feel excited about my life and I wanted people to see that.”

People’s perceptions of you, like it or not, come from what they see. They see your face, your eyes, your skin, your clothing and they develop an idea about what you’re about. This may not be fair, but it is true.

Do you look like you’re tired because of the lines around your eyes? Do you look cranky or angry time because of those deep frown lines between your eyebrows?

When people ask why we’ve chosen to offer injectables like Botox and Juvederm it isn’t because we’re pushing a media driven beauty ideal. It’s because we know that these specialized products can make you look more like your gorgeous self.

Your face is your biggest expression. If your face isn’t really reflecting how you truly feel about yourself or those around you, isn’t that tragic?

Our injectables are safe and effective ways to look happier, more alive, more energetic, less stressed out and well rested. That is the picture of health and that’s what motivates us.
