Facial Laser Treatment; Fort Collins Dermatologist

Lasers, like the Cutera Xeo, are one of the most effective ways to even out the texture of the skin. One important point to remember is that every device and protocol is different. It all depends on the results you are seeking, skin type, and hair color even plays a role. Uneven texture can result from sun damage leaving the face spotted or leathery. Before you commit to a laser procedure, there are some important dos and don’ts that you should be aware of. The laser we use is the Cutera Xeo which delivers identical pulses of light each time it is used, unlike many other lasers. With many lasers, the treatment area is numbed with a topical cream. However not all treatments are painful. Once the skin starts tingling and becomes cold, the procedure can begin. The numbing will wear off shortly after the procedure is complete.

There may be some time required for your skin to return to normal after a procedure. Depending on how invasive the procedure is, the downtime can vary from none to about a week. With no downtime, any redness or pinkness of the skin will disappear in less than a day.

There are many different strengths of laser. Lighter lasers can treat minimal pigment problems and usually do not require down time as they do not break the skin. However, they typically need to be done more than once. Some feel like nothing while others can hurt or even make the skin feel warm.

The best time to receive a laser treatment is in the winter. After your skin receives laser treatment, sun exposure should be kept to a minimum.

Results from laser treatment can be great, but you will have to be diligent about maintaining results. After the full course of treatment, protecting your skin from the sun and keeping it healthy will prolong your results. Failure to protect your skin from the sun could damage your skin again.
