Things to Know Before Botox; Fort Collins Medical Spa

Botox is an injectable that helps smooth out wrinkles in the face. Today we will give you a run down on the details of the procedure and things you should know before you schedule a Botox injection.

Botox is a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is a microbe that causes botulism. It works by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles which prevents them from creating deep wrinkles and furrows in the skin. Wrinkles are caused by a combination of lack of collagen, cellular changes in the body, sun exposure, and changes in the environment.

Injectable Botox can be used for temporarily eliminating moderately severe facial wrinkles. It can also be used to treat various medical conditions, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, chronic migraines and chronic pain.

Botox is injected into the facial muscles with a very fine needle. To help with crow’s feet, Botox will be injected into three areas of the muscle that frames the side of the eye. To help with frown lines, Botox will be injected into two of the muscles in the forehead.

Your aesthetician may choose to numb the area with ice packs or topical numbing cream prior to injection. Results will begin to appear within a few days of treatment, and they may last up to four months. Areas that receive regular injections may have results that last longer. Botox should only be injected by qualified medical professionals.

Don’t consume alcohol for two days before treatment and avoid aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs for two weeks prior to injections. This may prevent bruising. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a neurological disease, you should not receive Botox.

Botox may not work for all wrinkles. If you’re considering injections, please schedule a complimentary consultation. With repeated treatment, wrinkles may appear less severe over time as the muscles are trained to be less active. For younger patients, Botox may prevent minor wrinkles from forming.
